چکیده

Abstract. Using multiple reanalysis datasets and modeling simulations, the trends of Antarctic stratospheric planetary wave activities in early austral spring since 2000s are investigated this study. We find that September have weakened significantly year 2000, which is mainly related to weakening tropospheric sources extratropical Southern Hemisphere. As ozone also shows clear shift around impact recovery on activity examined through numerical simulations. Significant lower stratosphere changes atmospheric state for propagation some extent, inducing a slight decrease vertical flux upper troposphere (UTLS). However, environment middle over subpolar region not significant. The has minor contribution significant September. Further analysis indicates trend sea surface temperature (SST) 20∘ N–70∘ S well linked activities. model simulations reveal SST Hemisphere (20–70∘ S) tropics (20–20∘ induce 1 component geopotential height Hemisphere, subsequently leads flux. In addition, both data indicate Brewer–Dobson circulation (BDC) been 2000 due

Recent Antarctic sea ice trends in the context of Southern Ocean surface climate variations since 1950

This study compares the distribution of surface climate trends over the Southern Ocean in austral summer between 1979–2011 and 1950–1978, using a wide variety of data sets including uninterpolated griddedmarine archives, land station data, reanalysis, and satellite products. Apart from the Antarctic Peninsula and adjacent regions, sea surface temperatures and surface air temperatures decreased ...

Inorganic carbon removal and isotopic enrichment in Antarctic sea ice gap layers during early austral summer

The biogeochemical composition of 2 spatially separate surface gap layers on a single Antarctic sea ice floe during early austral summer was predominantly controlled by the growth of diatoms and, especially, Phaeocystis. These algal communities in and near the gap layers imposed large geochemical changes in the chemical and isotopic composition of the gap waters, typical of intense autotrophic ...

Sea ice trends in the Antarctic and their relationship to surface air temperature during 1979–2009

Surface air temperature (SAT) from four reanalysis/analysis datasets are analyzed and compared with the observed SAT from 11 stations in the Antarctic. It is found that the SAT variation from Goddard Institute for Space Studies (GISS) is the best to represent the observed SAT. Then we use the sea ice concentration (SIC) data from satellite measurements, the SAT data from the GISS dataset and st...
